The Montreal Impact Academy USSDA teams were on the opposite end of 3-0 scores, as the U18s topped the Revolution Empire in the first matchup before the U16s fell in the second game of the day on Sunday.

Returning from a three-month winter sabbatical, the U18s managed to earn a decisive victory on goals by Charles Joly (see photo above), Yacine Ait-Slimane and Guillaume Trudel, despite having one full team practice last week as a number of players train with the U21 side.

“I think the players now understand how difficult this league is and went into the game with the right mentality,” said U18 head coach Jason DiTullio, in his first game behind the bench since the restructuring of the Academy coaching staff. “We stuck to our principles, and if we do that every game, will be successful.”

Despite falling 3-0 to the Empire, the U16s had a solid showing as it held the advantage in possession.

“We played relatively well for most of the game, but a few key mistakes hurt us,” said U16 head coach Simon Gatti, also coaching his first game in his new role. “The score doesn’t really reflect the effort. We created some chances, but couldn’t finish while the Revolution capitalized on theirs. Now we just have to keep working and improving for next weekend.”
