The Montreal Impact U16 and U18 teams had a difficult time this past weekend in the US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) winter showcase tournament, managing only one win in six matches.
The U18s lost all three of their matches, falling to Real Salt Lake AZ 4-1 last Friday, then 2-1 to the Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday before dropping its last game 3-1 to the Concorde Fire on Monday. A bright spot for the Impact was newcomer Charles-Olivier Haguette, who scored all three of his side’s goals.
The U16s faired a little better, earning a 3-2 win in its final game on Tuesday against the Concorde Fire, but fell 5-3 to Real Salt Lake and 4-0 to the Seattle Sounders on Saturday and Sunday respectively. David Choinière (2) and Pierre Lamothe scored versus RSL, while Choinière added another along with Claudio Di Zazzo and Gino Temguia versus the Fire.
As the games count in the regular season standings, the Impact U18 now sits in eight spot in the division with a 2-6-7 record, having played more matches than all of its rivals (15), while the U16s are in seventh spot with a record of 5-7-3.
The USSDA season goes on break for the winter, starting up again on March 16 as both Impact Academy teams take on the Revolution Empire in Syracuse, New York.
