The Montreal Impact youth teams went undefeated over the weekend, with the USSDA sides winning both their matchups on Saturday over Seacoast United. The U18 team won 6-1 and the Impact U16 registered a 1-0 victory at Saint-Jean-Vianney Complex, while the U21s played to a scoreless draw on the road versus the University of Vermont.
Impact U18 6-1 Seacoast United
The U18s got goals from six different players - Yacine Ait Slimane, John Dinkota, Francis Duceppe, Charles Joly, Philippe Lincourt-Joseph and Zachary Sukunda – on its way to a blowout victory at home. The team is now undefeated in USSDA gameplay since returning from the winter break, winning all four of its matchups, including the first three on the road.
“Our main objective starting from January was to improve from game to game and practice to practice,” said Impact U18 head coach Jason DiTullio. “We’ve seen our attitude improve and Saturday was the perfect example that we were all on the same page. All goals scored came from playing as a team and I think we are starting to understand that playing together will also help each player progress individually. What’s most satisfying is the way we are getting these results, with our identity showing through.”
Impact U16 1-0 Seacoast United
The U16s continued to improve on its second half, earning points for a second match in a row in its first win since the break, shutting out Seacoast 1-0 in RDP. Heikel Jarras scored the game winner, while goalkeeper Yann-Alxandre Fillion earned the shutout.
The Academy sides have a bye-week coming up, returning to action on the road on Sunday, May 5, against the New York Red Bulls, at NJIT – Lubetkin Field, with kickoff at 12:30pm ET for the U18s and 3pm ET for the U16s.
Impact U21 0-0 University of Vermont
The U21 team played the University of Vermont to a scoreless draw on Sunday, on the road, in its third game of its season. First team goalkeeper and Academy product Maxime Crépeau earned the shutout.
“It was a good match all things considered against a very athletic team with a direct style of play,” said U21 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “The group put together a quality performance with good movement in order to find some space. Unfortunately, we our finishing was a little off as we could not get that goal we were looking for despite creating a number of good scoring opportunities. I am satisfied with the boys’ performance and the dynamic of the group as well with eight players from the U18 team as part of the group.”
The team will host its first home game of the season, at Saint-Jean-Vianney Complex, on Saturday, May 4, against Dartmouth University at 7pm ET. The game is open to the public and admission is free.
