MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced Friday that former Canadian international Amy Walsh will be joining the Club and its Academy as a collaborator in the development of women's soccer.

Walsh will act as an ambassador to help develop, grow and promote CF Montréal’s broader projects as it relates to women's soccer.

“We are very pleased to have Amy join our organization and contribute to the development of women's soccer within the Club,” said CF Montréal President and CEO Gabriel Gervais. “Women's soccer is an important part of our communities, and we need to continue our efforts to develop and promote young female athletes in the province.”

“I am thrilled to join CF Montréal in leading this project to develop women's soccer in the province,” said Amy Walsh. “Creating a new dynamic and elite option for young girls will be an important step in the evolution of the sport in an inclusive and equitable manner. I want to thank the Club for this opportunity.”

Moving forward, the Club wants to implement a new event, the Women's Soccer Week, in collaboration with Soccer Québec and the province's amateur soccer clubs. The organization also wants to explore the possibility of integrating women's teams into the CF Montréal Academy.

A native of Saint-Bruno, Amy Walsh graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1999, where she played university soccer for three seasons. At the professional level, she played for the San Jose CyberRays and Atlanta Beat of the WUSA in 2001, the Montreal Xtreme in 2004 and the Laval Comets from 2006 to 2009. Walsh earned 102 caps from 1998 to 2009 with the Canadian women’s national team. She also won the Concacaf Women's Championship in 1998, was a finalist at the Gold Cup in 2002 and 2006, finished third at the Pan American Games in 2007, participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in China and the Women's World Cup in 1999 and 2007. She was inducted into the Soccer Québec Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame in 2017.

Walsh is also a yoga and mobility coach. She has been working with young athletes with the sport-études programs of regional associations across the province since 2012, as well as with CF Montréal Academy players since 2019. She is also an analyst for CF Montréal games on TSN 690.

In addition, this weekend CF Montréal is organizing, in collaboration with Soccer Québec, a first ever U13-U14 Women's All-Star Game, presented by BMO, this Sunday at 3:30pm at Stade Saputo. Amy Walsh is the ambassador of the event and will participate in the pregame ceremonies.
