Winning on the road is a difficult task for any team in MLS. Wednesday night in Vancouver will be no different for the Impact, taking on the Whitecaps FC in the deciding leg of the Amway Canadian Championship finals.
Having tied the first leg at Stade Saputo 2-2 on August 12, the Bleu-blanc-noir faces a bit of an uphill battle with the ‘Caps banking two away goals.
The thing is, the club has been there before and has already come out on top.
“We’ve been there before and were able to get it done,” said midfielder Justin Mapp. “It’s another final and would get us back in the Champions League next year, so we definitely want to win it, but we know that our work is cut out for us.”
In 2013, after these very same two teams played to a scoreless draw in Montreal, the Impact went into B.C. Place and onto its turf pitch needing a result to qualify.
Trailing 2-1 with only six minutes remaining in the contest, defender Hassoun Camara scored a dramatic equalizer to propel the Impact to its first Canadian title since 2008.
Now there’s some crucial experience to bank on come Wednesday night (Sportsnet, TVA Sports).
