There is a Canadian connection with the Impact’s final pick of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

Selected 67th overall, San Diego State University striker Jordan Ongaro is a good old Canadian boy, but he also comes from a soccer family, with ties to the Impact.

His uncle, Ross Ongaro, coached in Canada and its Canadian program for a number of years, crossing paths with the Impact’s sporting director Nick De Santis, as his coach with the Edmonton Drillers.

De Santis was a co-captain of the indoor club, scoring 43 goals and amassing 110 points in just 38 games played over the 1996/1997 NPSL season, helping Ongaro win Coach of the Year award.

The younger Ongaro will now look to impress the Impact technical staff and earn a spot on the roster as training camp opens Monday at the Marie-Victorin sports complex.
