MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced on Thursday that it has acquired midfielder Ahmed Hamdi on loan from Egyptian club El Gouna FC. The deal for the 2021 season also includes a player purchase option. The agreement will be confirmed upon reception of his international transfer certificate and medical examination.
“We are very pleased with the acquisition of this young U-23 international,” said CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard. “He is a player with attacking qualities, who can play as a box-to-box midfielder or higher up as an attacking midfielder. He's very skilled technically and can provide that final, decisive pass. We hope he will confirm what we saw in him, so that we can keep him with us for several years.”
After playing with El Ahly Cairo's U-23 team, he officially joined the club’s first team squad in 2018, scoring two goals and adding three assists in 18 games. He was then loaned out to El Gouna FC for the 2019 season, before being officially transferred on September 17, 2019, tallying seven goals and three assists in 42 Egyptian Premier League games. This season during the month of January, he scored two goals in four appearances.
On the international stage, he made his debut with the Egyptian U-23 squad on July 9, 2018, playing a total of 5 matches.
