MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced on Monday the acquisition of Slovenian centre-back Aljaz “Kiki” Struna (pronounced: Ah-li-ash Strou-nah) and an international roster spot for the 2021 season from the Houston Dynamo FC, in return for forward Maxi Urruti and a 2022 MLS SuperDraft second round pick.
Houston will retain a percentage of any sell-on fee if Struna is transferred outside of Major League Soccer.
“We are pleased to add a tall centre-back to our defensive core,” said CF Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard. “He has experience in MLS and on the international scene, and he’s played several years in Italy. I would like to thank Maxi for his two seasons with us and wish him the best of luck in Houston.”
Struna joined the Houston Dynamo FC on December 24, 2018, from Italian club Palermo F.C. He played 46 MLS games with the Texan club, including 45 starts, for a total of 4046 minutes of play. He also played 21 games with the Slovenian national team, making his senior debut on March 23, 2016, against Macedonia.
In his last two seasons with Montreal, Maxi Urruti scored nine goals and added eight assists in 46 regular season games.
