MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced Thursday the acquisition of Argentine midfielder Joaquín Torres, on loan from Newell’s Old Boys. The deal for the 2021 season also includes an option to purchase the player. The transaction will be confirmed upon reception of his international transfer certificate and medical examination.

“We are happy to welcome Joaquín among us,” said CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard. “He is a winger who can also play as an attacking midfielder, who will bring his creativity to our game. He likes to play vertically and pierce defensive lines through his one-on-one qualities."

Torres, who turned 24 last Thursday, has been with Argentine club Newell's Old Boys since 2010. He joined the first team of the Rosario-based side in 2015, scoring two goals in 27 games during the 2017-2018 season. In the 2019-2020 season, while on loan at Greek club Volos FC, in the first division, he tallied five goals in 24 games, including 15 starts and 1,573 minutes of play in the Super League.
