MONTRÉAL – CF Montréal is set to welcome Forge FC to Stade Saputo on Wednesday at 7 p.m. EDT in the TELUS Canadian Championship Final. The tournament finale will see the Bleu-blanc-noir vie for a sixth Canadian Championship since the competition was established in 2008 (One Soccer, RDS, TSN, TSN 690).
CF Montréal advanced after defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-2 on aggregate in September. Forge FC, meanwhile, booked its spot in the final after defeating FC Supra du Québec 2-1 over two legs.
Wednesday's contest will mark Forge FC's second trip to the Canadian Championship Final, having previously accomplished the feat in 2020, when it fell in penalties after a 1-1 home draw against Toronto FC. Since entering the competition in 2019, Forge FC has posted a record of nine wins, four draws and seven losses over 20 matches while scoring 27 goals.
For the Bleu-blanc-noir, Prince Owusu has scored five goals in the TELUS Canadian Championship while with CF Montréal. He is just one goal shy of matching the Club’s all-time leading goal scorers in the competition, Ignacio Piatti and Sunusi Ibrahim. Owusu has scored eight goals in 14 Canadian Championship appearances, tying him for second place on the competition’s all-time scoring list, one goal behind Ballou Tabla. In goal, Sébastian Breza will make his second appearance in a Canadian Championship Final on Wednesday. He helped CF Montréal win the Voyageurs Cup in 2021 and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
