MONTREAL – CF Montréal and Soccer Québec jointly announced Thursday that the Club’s reserve team will be joining the Première ligue de soccer du Québec (PLSQ) as of this spring. With this addition, the league will open the 2022 season with 12 teams.
“CF Montréal is a close partner of ours and we have always worked hand in hand with the team,” said Soccer Québec General Manager Mathieu Chamberland, who is pleased with the culmination of this initiative undertaken by Montreal. “I’m thrilled that our mutual trust helped convince the club to join our league.”
“We are happy to officially participate in the PLSQ in 2022,” said CF Montréal Sporting Director Olivier Renard. “Thanks to our partnership with Soccer Québec, we will have the means to compete in a high-performance and competitive environment and use the platform to continue the development of club prospects and our Academy.”
Discussions between CF Montréal and the PLSQ began several months ago. However, the Club preferred to properly weigh all its options before moving forward. On the PLSQ’s side, the league intentions have always been to attract a CF Montréal team within its ranks.
The sentiment is echoed by the director of the Régie de Soccer Québec, Martin DesGroseilliers. “We’re thrilled to welcome CFM to our league. This latest development is the fruit of multiple meetings and something we hoped to achieve since the launch of the league in 2012. I would like to thank all the stakeholders who made this long-awaited project possible,” DesGroseilliers said.
