Montreal kicks off road trip in Washington
CF Montréal will be on the road to take on D.C. United at Audi Field, this Wednesday night at 7:30pm in MLS action. You can watch the game on Apple TV with the MLS Season Pass, or follow on RDS, TSN, BPM Sports and TSN 690.
Montreal will be looking for a third consecutive win through all competitions when they visit the Washington side tomorrow night. Currently ninth in the Eastern Conference standings, the Bleu-blanc-noir will be looking to turn things around away from home as they’ve only managed one win through eight road fixtures in 2023 in MLS.
It will also mark a return to D.C. United for the gaffer Hernán Losada, former D.C. United head coach in 2021 and 2022.
"It's going to be a tough game, against an opponent who invested a lot this year," said head coach Hernán Losada. “They have a very competitive team. It's a good stadium with a great atmosphere. It's always special returning somewhere you once worked."
That being said, CF Montréal has been dominant on the home front. Head coach Hernán Losada’s men have lost just once at Stade Saputo in 2023, and that’s against their next opponent, D.C. United, falling 1-0 in our Stade Saputo home opener. Montreal has won six consecutive games at home since that loss, all clean sheets.
D.C. United is in a fairly similar predicament to ours, just one point above CF Montréal in the standings. It’s been a difficult month of May for the Washington representatives, who managed just one win in six games played so far. They’re most recently coming off a 2-1 loss to Toronto FC last weekend.
“There's been an evolution," says Losada. “We're not the same team we were at the start of the season. We're not the same team that lost 1-0 at Stade Saputo to them last time, our only loss at home. We're more positive and I think there's a lot of positive energy in the group. There's more cohesion between the players too. It's starting to work a lot better little by little."
CF Montréal will continue its road trip when they pay a visit to the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, June 3, at 7:30pm, followed by a trip to the West Coast for the Canadian Championship final, where they’ll take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on Wednesday, June 7, at 10pm EST.
