Montreal looking to book its spot in the Canadian Championship semi-final
CF Montréal will take on Toronto FC on the road, this Tuesday night at 7pm at BMO Field, in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Canadian Championship. You can follow all the action live on One Soccer or follow along on BPM Sports and TSN 690.
Montreal gets set to take on their biggest rival twice this week, as they also host the Ontario side at Stade Saputo this Saturday as part of MLS Rivalry Week. CF Montréal will also be celebrating its 30th anniversary during this game. Tickets are available here.
"We want to do well in both games," said head coach Hernan Losada. “The first one is an all or nothing game. If we win, we go through, but if we lose, we're out. We're playing on the road in a derby against Toronto, so we're going to take it very seriously. We want to try to keep our momentum going."
Montreal qualified to the quarterfinals following a 2-0 win in the first round of the national tournament, last April 18 at Stade Saputo, thanks to goals from Sean Rea and Sunusi Ibrahim in the first half.
Head coach Hernan Losada’s men have been on a winning streak since that result against Vaughan SC, having won their last four games across all competitions, including three straight wins in MLS. They’ve also been sturdy defensively, allowing no goals in that streak.
Our neighbours to the West are getting set to play their first game in this year’s Canadian Championship, having been automatically qualified to the quarterfinals. Toronto has struggled early this season, with only one win in their last seven matches. They’re coming off a 2-0 loss to the hands of the New England Revolution last weekend.
"We respect all the teams in MLS. Toronto is a team that has a lot of individual quality and is still looking for the right collective dynamic. But they are a team to respect. They could have been higher than their position in the standings.”
CF Montréal will be back home to take on Toronto FC for a second time this week, this Saturday at 7:30pm at Stade Saputo, during which we will also celebrate our 30th anniversary. Tickets for that game are available here.
