Impact captain Davy Arnaud has a knack for scoring big goals in big games.
His first of the 2013 campaign helped the Impact earn three points in its opening game, on the road, in its sophomore season.
Goal of the Week: Vote for captain Davy!
It’s the second year in a row that he scores his team’s first marker of the campaign, opening his account in 2012 at the Olympic Stadium in a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire at the home opener, and his third all-time in Seattle at the unfriendly confines of CenturyLink Field.
“I’ve had some pretty good luck here,” said the 11-year MLS veteran. “It’s a great stadium to play in and a great atmosphere. Scoring goals on the road is tough, and especially against them because they score a lot of goals at home. It’s a big win for us.”
A big win indeed, considering the Impact managed to win just two games on the road all-season long in its inaugural campaign.
And the key to the playoffs will be a season in which the Impact continues to work hard on the road.
“I think this year in preseason we’ve been really solid defensively,” added the Texas native. “If we can continue to score one goal and get points on the road, we’re going to be ok.”
Arnaud and his teammates can put his theory to the test as they practice in Portland this week in preparation for another difficult road game against the Timbers on Saturday night (10:30 pm ET on TVA Sports and 98,5FM).
