Special Olympics athletes take part in Deloitte Day at Stade Saputo
A hundred youngsters lived a unique experience, Tuesday afternoon at Stade Saputo, as part of Impact Day, organized by Deloitte. Close to fifty volunteers from the Deloitte office in Montreal welcomed students from St-Albert-le-Grand and Centre François-Michelle elementary schools to the home of the Montreal club, as well as Special Olympic athletes from Quebec. All these participants were divided into six teams and a friendly tournament was played on the same grass the Impact’s professional players defend the city’s honour; it goes without saying that there were constellations of stars found in the children’s eyes.
“The mission of the Special Olympics is to enrich the lives of those with intellectual deficiencies through sport,” explained Gabriel Gervais, former Impact defender and now a senior consulting manager at Deloitte. “At Deloitte, we dedicate an entire day of work during the year to the community. It’s with great pleasure that we associate ourselves to my Impact family, a team I played on for many years. I’m very proud of Deloitte’s implication.”
On top of playing soccer on Stade Saputo’s famous pitch, the youngsters were visited by midfielder Mathieu Choinière, who gave out medals, saluted the participants, while also handing out some technical advice along with the help of the Impact’s Soccer Schools.
“To be here, in the stadium where the pros play, to be able to play and have fun, it changes the routine for everyone involved today, including the young athletes that participated,” concluded Gervais.
