“I’m excited about having been once again selected,” said Alex Surprenant. “This is the most important camp since it’s the last one. At this stage, I think there are good chances that I make it with the team for the qualifiers, but I must continue working hard. I’m very determined to represent Canada during these qualifiers.”
Surprenant, a 19-year-old left-footed defender from Saint-Alexandre, took part on three other national team camps in 2008: in Toronto in May, in Switzerland in November and in Florida in December. On November 25, in Berne, Switzerland, he played all 90 minutes in a 1-1 tie against the UI-20 Swiss national team. Surprenant will be entering his second season with the Impact in 2009.
During the U-20 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Canada will face Mexico, Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago, in Group B.
