Having returned to the field with the squad on Tuesday afternoon, Drogba provided an update to the Montreal media after the session.

While he doesn’t feel 100 percent fit yet due to back pain, Drogba is pleased with the progress he’s made in recent days.

Drogba still doesn’t have the freedom to do whatever he wants in training, but the striker took part in two sessions on Tuesday. His status will be clearer on Wednesday, said head coach Mauro Biello.

“If he can play, he can help,” Biello said. “He trained today, and we’ll see what it looks like tomorrow. We’ll be doing some more intense stuff in the coming days. The fact that he’s here is good news, and hopefully he’ll be available. He wants to help this team, and he wants to win.”

Without Drogba, the Impact took a 1-0 lead in its Eastern Conference Semifinal series against New York, a performance that the Ivorian enjoyed to the fullest.

“I’m proud when I see the guys play with such confidence,” Drogba said. “As I said at the beginning of the season, I’m here to win. My tune hasn’t changed.”

The return leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinal against the Red Bulls takes place this Sunday at 4pm in Harrison, New Jersey (RDS, TSN, ESPN, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN, 98,5fm & TSN Radio 690).
