Marco Donadel ran a lot in the snow. But now, it’s time to play.
The weather getting milder coincided with the Italian returning to training this week at the Montreal Impact training centre. Hindered by a leg injury sustained early this season, Donadel had been limited to running on the sidelines for quite some time.
This Wednesday, a relieved Donadel was part of the group that trained on a full-size natural grass field behind Caserne Letourneux.
“I feel good,” Donadel said after training. “I’m obviously not 100 percent, because it’s my third training session with the team. I’m happy that I can start to play on a big field like today.”
Donadel was forced off the field in the first game of the season, a 3-2 win at Vancouver, in the 56th minute. He had played in spite of the pain after tweaking something just before the warmups.
“Then, I played, because I didn’t want to be out after 40 days of preseason, leave the first game during the warmup,” Donadel said. “But we won over there. The most important thing is the team.”
But Donadel then miss the following four games, not knowing exactly what his injury was.
“The sensation was always the same: nothing better, and nothing worse,” Donadel said. “For two weeks, I didn’t feel great, because we didn’t know. But then I started to train over the pain, and it’s gone better.”
