HARRISBURG, PA – FC Montreal suffered a 6-0 loss to the City Islanders in Harrisburg Saturday night, at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
“With the ball, it was the best performance of our last three games, but without the ball, it was poor,” said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We had most of the possession. The result is harsh. We had just as many chances as them. We can only congratulate them for their attacking efficiency.”
Enric Valles scored with a low shot in the left corner in the 8th minute. Jose Barril, who set up the first goal, then found Jason Plumhoff with a through pass down the left flank. Plumhoff also hit his low in the left corner in the 11th minute to double Harrisburg’s lead. Plumhoff added a second goal just before halftime, in the 45th minute.
Harrisburg came out even stronger in the second half. Forward Craig Foster scored a hat trick in less than 20 minutes. He scored his first in the 47th minute, on a Jose Barril pass. His next two goals were scored in the 54th and 64th minutes, on passes from Andy Lubahn.
At the end of the game, defender Nevello Yoseke hit the crossbar with a shot from outside the box, but Harrisburg held on for the 6-0 shutout.
“We were unorganized defensively and made a lot of mistakes,” said defender Jonathan Grant. “I think they finished their chances and we didn’t. The score line could have been different.”
Winger Alessandro Riggi, the team’s best scorer this season with seven goals, was suspended for this game due to yellow card accumulation.
“Our team is much younger,” said Eullaffroy. “When you have a younger team, the lack of experience makes these situations harder to deal with. The players have to learn that the solutions will come collectively. We were still able to create some chances in the final minutes.”
FC Montreal will play its next game on Saturday, September 5, against Toronto FC II at 3pm, at the Ontario Soccer Centre. The game will be available via web streaming at www.impactmontreal.com/fcmontreal.
