Felipe: “We are expecting a boy in June, so I dedicated that goal to him”

Felipe celebration vs New York Red Bulls

On a night when midfielders Felipe and Andres Romero both scored their first goals of the season, Felipe’s celebration, his first since learning that he was going to become a dad, mimicked that of his South American counterpart’s from last season, after he learnt that he was going to have twins.

He placed the ball under his jersey in honour of his unborn son.

“We are expecting a boy in June, so I dedicated that goal to him,” said Felipe after the game.

After Romero missed three games due to suspension, and Felipe’s four games without a goal to start the year, it was a little karmic that both broke the ice together and that both used the same celebration, albeit it at different times, after learning of their new fates as fathers.

As the team continues to work on finding three points, Felipe and Romero can build on the momentum from Saturday’s strong outing to help the team find its first win and maybe exchange a few war stories, from one young father to a father-to-be.
