Final showdown at Stade Saputo

The stage is set for another classic between Montreal and Toronto

One final game to go this season, and it’s a big one, as CF Montréal gets set to take on Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship final, with the Voyageurs Cup and a spot in next year’s Concacaf Champions League on the line.

The final will take place this Sunday at Stade Saputo. You can purchase tickets for our final game of the season here.

It’ll be a fourth meeting between these two sides in 2021, Montreal getting the better of their rivals this year with two wins and a draw over three games. But most of that goes out the window when it comes to a cup final.

“Over the course of the season, I’ve grown to understand this rivalry and this type of game,” said midfielder Djordje Mihailovic. “Finally, we get to play them again, but this time there’s a title on the line. It’s a different type of game. It’s the last game of the season, so there’s no reason to hold back.”

After finishing their season on MLS Decision Day with a heartbreaking loss to Orlando City SC, Wilfried Nancy’s men swallowed their disappointment and returned to training, more motivated than ever to put that loss behind them and finish the season on a positive note, with a trophy.

“This is an important week,” said midfielder Mathieu Choinière. “We have an opportunity to win a trophy on Sunday. The intensity at training is high, and it’s growing more and more as the game approaches. I’m expecting them to come out strong. They’ll be motivated, but so are we. We know it’s going to be a tough game.”

The stage is set for another true classic between these two sides, and it will all take place here, at Stade Saputo. The last time Montreal lifted the Voyageurs Cup in Montreal was in 2014, beating, you guessed it, Toronto FC.

“We started the season out in Miami playing in front of no supporters, in a stadium that’s on the other side of the continent,” explained Mihailovic. “To be able to play our final game in front of our supporters and for a trophy, we’re very grateful.”

Tous au Stade Montreal.
