Impact U17 remains unbeaten after three games
The Montreal Impact’s Academy USSDA season continued last weekend, with all three of the Impact teams in action on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, against the New York Red Bulls teams, the Impact U15 and Impact U19 suffered losses, 3-0 and 3-2 respectively, while the Impact U17 remains unbeaten this season after edging out the New York team 4-2.
Sunday was a different story for the Montreal club as it took on the Players Development Academy teams. All three Academy teams emerged victorious, the Impact U15 and U17 cruising to 4-1 wins, while the Impact U19 earned its first win of the season by a 4-2 scoreline.
Impact U15 bounces back after loss
The Impact U15 got the weekend started against the Red Bulls but was never really able to put its stamp on the game, with the New York team applying its signature high press to keep the ball in Montreal territory. Although the Impact has its opportunities, two goals late in the first half put the game out of reach.
The team bounced back on Sunday, however, against the Players Development Academy’s U15 side. Two goals from Marvens Pacius, in the sixth and 27th minutes, put Montreal up by two, and despite PDA cutting the deficit in half minutes later, two goals from Matteo Schiavonni and Loic Sany Kong handed Montreal the win.
U17 side remains unbeaten
It’s been a stellar start to the season thus far for head coach Jason Di Tullio’s men, the U17 team adding two more wins last weekend to bring its record to 3-0 on the season, including a 4-2 win over the New York Red Bulls at the Red Bulls Training Facility. It was Abdul Binate who immediately set the tone, converting from the spot in the game’s second minute to give his team the lead.
But the Red Bulls took the lead with two quick goals of their own, and Montreal went into the locker room down by a goal. In the second half, the Impact clawed its way back, with Mouhamadou Kane scoring in the 55th minute to tie the game, while Medgy Alexandre scored the winner a few minutes later, in the 63rd. Kane would complete his brace in stoppage time to put this one out of reach.
Against PDA on Sunday, the team continued its goalscoring form courtesy of Mouhamadou Kane, who scored a hat-trick to complete a five-goal weekend. But it was the Impact’s Jordan Therrien who opened the scoring in the fifth minute, with all of Kane’s goals coming in the second half.
First win for Impact U19
It looked like Philippe Eullafroy’s men were on their way to victory Saturday against the Red Bulls as well, with Sunday’s hero, Mujtaba Mir Hasan, scoring twice in the first half to give the Impact a two-goal lead. But the home team came alive in the second half, storming from behind to score three goals, including two in the game’s last ten minutes, to take the lead and win the game.
The Impact U19 signed its first win of the 2019-20 season Sunday, defeating the PDA U19-side 4-2 in the last game of the weekend for the Academy. After the home side was able to open the scoring, the Impact answered with four unanswered goals, with Mujtaba Mir Hasan scoring a hat-trick. Junior Kabwe also scored for the visitors.
Upcoming games
The Montreal Impact will be back in action at Centre Nutrailt this Saturday, on September 21, when they host the youth teams of MLS club New York City FC. The Impact U15s will be in action at 10am, the U17s at 12:30pm, and the U19s at 3pm.
