Prior to the team’s inaugural season in MLS, the Impact made certain promises to its supporters: a better calibre of play, a competitive team, a designated player and a renovated stadium. In short: a better product.
The Impact has kept its word and is currently sitting in second place in the league in terms of attendance with an average of 28,296 spectators per game.
However, attendance at Stade Saputo has not lived up to the club’s expectations, surprisingly actually, following the success at Olympic Stadium.
The energy surrounding the first few games in the city was palpable, but it has dissipated over the three-week break, before the opening of Stade Saputo.
As season ticket objectives were not reached, the club is now counting on making up the difference with single ticket sales, which is a difficult task. Are ticket prices too high? Well, the Montreal Impact is the least expensive of the pro sports attractions in the city, but the club could re-examine the ticket structure for 2013.

“Our objectives are higher than what we are experiencing at the moment,” said Impact executive vice-president Richard Legendre. “We are aware that work remains to be done, and we are not looking at the market as acquired. The positive perception of the club and MLS must transform into ticket sales. Everyone who comes to visit the stadium tells us how much they appreciate the experience and the ambiance. If there is something missing, we invite our fans to let us know.”

In order to give our fans a chance to discover the stadium, the club will organize an open house, free of charge, as a “5 a 7”, on Thursday, July 5.
The second half of the season begins Saturday in Washington, then home on Wednesday at Stade Saputo against Sporting Kansas City.
