Young Montreal Impact keeper Maxime Crépeau showed all of his qualities Friday night in California.
The Canadian national team, backed by Crépeau, kept a clean sheet for most of the game against the U.S. at StubHub Center. Even though it was his debut with the senior team, Crépeau played with confidence against FIFA’s currently ranked 32nd soccer nation, including stops on MLS stars Altidore, Zardes and Birnbaum in the first half.
However, Jozy Altidore did end up preventing him from getting the shutout, scoring the winning goal for the U.S. with a header in the 89th minute.
After the match, coach Benito Floro praised Crépeau, mentioning that the Quebecker had a solid performance.
Impact defender Wandrille Lefèvre also played 45 minutes in this match for Canada as a starter in his second game with the national team, while midfielder Kyle Bekker played the second half.
The remaining Impact member involved with these two sides, American defender Eric Miller, did not get the chance to face is mates.
