As part of its community involvement, the Montreal Impact and the Centre des jeunes Boyce-Viau took part in a revitalization of Parc Théodore, located at the corner of Viau and Hochelaga, in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.
The field was cleaned, goals were painted, new sod was planted and the touch lines drawn, all to the pleasure of the young neighbourhood kids.
“Our organization has been involved in the community for almost 20 years and it’s important that we remain accessible,” noted the Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo. “We are part of this neighbourhood and we are proud to see all of the smiles today. It touches my heart to be here with them today.”
Quebec midfielder Patrice Bernier, team captain Davy Arnaud, forward Eduardo Sebrango and defender Jeb Brovsky were all helping out, getting their hands dirty along the way.
“We have to get involved with the community and it’s a bonus if we can help improve their lifestyles in the process,” said Bernier. “I played my whole life in parks like this one and that helped me to progress. This might be the beginning for some who will go from Parc Théodore to Stade Saputo.”
“I’ve always loved landscaping. I did a lot of work while I was in high school,” added Brovsky smiling. “I love to work with kids. The people in this neighbourhood do a fantastic job and deserve more credit for what they are doing today. It’s nice for us to be able to contribute as well.”
The Impact also organized a barbecue and gave away supporter scarves to all those who participated in the event.
