The Montreal Impact plays its final game of the Reserve League season tomorrow on the road against D.C. United, and with a win, the club would be in a good position to win the Championship.
Currently first overall, the Impact has 19 points in 9 games played. A victory would end the season on 22 points, which would set the stage for a potential Reserve League championship as only two teams remaining in the hunt for first place would be able to overtake the Impact.
And those two teams cannot afford to lose a game along the way.
The Columbus Crew has 18 points on 8 games. Two wins in its last two games would see them end the campaign with 24 points. The Houston Dynamo has 16 points on 7 games and would have to go no less than 2-0-1 in its last three games to end the season in order to surpass the Impact.
As they play in different divisions, these two clubs won’t be facing each other over the final stretch, so the Impact may need a little help along the way. However, just to be in the hunt for any type of championship in your inaugural season is definitely something to be proud of.
The Impact’s final game of the Reserve League season is set for 11 am on Tuesday, at the DCU Training Field. Check impactmontreal.com for the postgame report.
