The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday that it has come to terms with Haitian international midfielder Steeven Saba on a one-year contract, with options for 2021 and 2022. His acquisition will be confirmed after he receives his international transfer certificate.
He holds his American passport and will not count as an international player.
“Steeven confirmed the qualities we saw before inviting him to camp,” said Montreal Impact sporting director Olivier Renard. “We are very happy to see him join the Impact and start the second phase of training camp as a full-time player.”
Saba, 26, is officially joining the first team after taking part in the first phase of training camp, in Montreal and Orlando. He played the last two seasons with Violette Athletic Club, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the Championnat national.
He previously attended the academies of Haitian clubs Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague and FC Shana, before playing with Weston Academy, in the United States.
At the international level, Saba has played 12 games with the Haitian national team, making his senior debut on May 30, 2018, in a friendly game against Argentina. He was named to the Best XI of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup group stage, starting all five games for the Grenadiers, who reached the semifinals. He also scored his first international goal on June 21, 2019, against Nicaragua, in the first game of the tournament. He has appeared in a qualifier and three Concacaf Nations League A games. He was previously part of the United States U18 team.Transaction : L’Impact de Montréal a conclu une entente avec le milieu de terrain Steeven Saba, sur les termes d’un contrat d’une saison, avec des options pour 2021 et 2022.
