Hi,
As we get ready to play our first game at Stade Saputo on April 26, I wanted to take a moment to address some of your concerns regarding our matchups at Olympic Stadium.
First of all, I wanted to thank you for your patience regarding the whole situation surrounding our home opener. As you well imagine, the postponement of our inaugural match at home because of poor weather conditions was an extremely trying and challenging experience for us all.
The members of our staff did their utmost to ensure a smooth transition, but needless to say, cancelling and postponing a game on such short notice comes with its share of difficulties, and for that, we truly appreciated your co-operation and understanding.
That being said, over the past few weeks, many of you have also been quite vocal and have asked us why we had to play at the Olympic Stadium at all. The truth is, the current scope of the MLS schedule coupled with our climate forces our hand to use the Olympic Stadium as a venue early in the season. If not, we would have to play too many games on the road at the onset of the season.
However, we have been in discussions with the league to make adjustments to our schedule and to examine the possibility of limiting the number of games at Olympic Stadium next season to just one.
Our initial talks with the league have been very positive and we believe that by maximizing our matches at Stade Saputo, we will not only be offering the very best soccer environment for our team and our supporters, but we will also be able to create a truly festive event at Olympic Stadium that, we hope, will become synonymous with the launch of the soccer season.
As soon as we have more details we will share them with you and rest assured that we will always have an open line of communication when it comes to improving your overall experience at our games.
Thanks again for your support and I look forward to seeing you at Stade Saputo on April 26.
Joey Saputo
