MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced on Wednesday the nomination of former Belgium international Laurent Ciman as assistant coach with the first team.
“We are very happy that Laurent is joining the coaching staff and that he is back with the Club,” said CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard. “It is a logical and beneficial association, especially knowing the attachment Laurent has always had for this Club and this city. We can now count on his experience after a fruitful career in Europe, in MLS, and on the international stage.”
“I'm very happy to be back home,” said Laurent Ciman. “It’s been my wish for a long time, and this is a great opportunity for myself and my family. I just want to contribute to the Club’s growth.”
Ciman, 35, has played six seasons in MLS for a total of 136 regular season games, including 126 starts, adding 11,361 playing minutes, and tallying five goals and four assists. He played three seasons in Montreal, from 2015 to 2017, before joining LAFC for the 2018 season, followed by Toronto FC for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He also took part in nine MLS Cup Playoffs games, nine Canadian Championship games and eight Concacaf Champions League games. In 2015, he was named Defender of the Year in MLS, and the Club’s Defensive Player of the Year.
From 2004 to 2015, Ciman played in the Belgian first division, successively under the colours of Royal Charleroi Sporting Club, Club Brugge, KV Kortrijk and Standard de Liège, playing 286 matches. During his playing career, he played a total of 515 professional matches, including 20 games with the Belgian national team.
