TORONTO – The MLS disciplinary committee has suspended Impact head coach Marco Schällibaum for having stepped onto the field during the game against Colorado, last Saturday, at Stade Saputo.
“Marco had no bad intentions towards the referee or the players from the other team,” declared Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. “We were really surprised to learn about the suspension as he was not ejected from the game, nor sanctioned by the referee. We tried to appeal the suspension, but unfortunately the rule is quite clear. You cannot step onto the pitch, even if the distance from the coach’s box to the touchline is very short at Stade Saputo.”
Impact assistant coach Philippe Eullaffroy was also suspended for one game for having thrown the ball in the direction of Rapids midfielder Tony Cascio.
The two coaches will serve their suspensions Wednesday night as the Impact faces Toronto FC, at BMO Field. The game will be televised on TSN and RDS at 7pm.
