MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced on Wednesday the appointment of Marinos Papageorgopoulos as Director of Youth Development at the Club’s Academy. He will oversee the Scouting and Development Center program with our partner clubs, along with the Pre-Academy, while also ensuring the link with our Soccer Schools.
"I am very happy Marinos is joining us," said CF Montréal Academy Director Patrick Leduc. “His resume speaks for itself, and I am excited to work alongside him on the Academy's partnership network, which will strengthen the base of our development pyramid."
"Through my conversations with Patrick Leduc and the Club, I felt a common passion and desire to develop great youth programs, and that motivates me,” said Marinos Papageorgopoulos. “My first objective is to gain a thorough understanding of how the Club works, its culture, but also to listen and learn from Quebec’s soccer community to help make an impact on young players’ paths."
Papageorgopoulos, 47, is from Montreal, and had previously occupied the role of Academy Centre director and associate head coach for the Vancouver Whitecaps since October 2016. Previously, he was the technical director for the Manitoba Soccer Association (MSA) since 2014, before becoming the Whitecaps FC Manitoba head coach, at the club’s academy centre launch, in 2015. In Vancouver, Marinos was also in charge of the Super REX women’s soccer program.
Before leaving Quebec, he learned his craft in our local soccer scene, as a co-director at ARS Laval, technical director at CS Chomedey, and as a U15 and U17 men’s provincial teams coach.
