Moments of 2012 - And the number one pick is...

Andrew Wenger SuperDraft moments 2012 English

With the first overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, the Montreal Impact selected Generation adidas defender and Hermann Trophy winner Andrew Wenger, last January 12.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber made the announcement in French.

Wenger had played his final three seasons in college with Duke University, winning the 2011 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, presented to the best male player in NCAA Division I soccer.

The 21-year-old played as a forward for the Impact and will be celebrating his birthday on Christmas day. He made 27 appearances in 2012, starting seven of them, while amassing four goals in just 823 minutes of play - due mostly to school commitments that kept him off the pitch in the first few months of the season.

He was also named to the 7th spot on MLSsoccer.com’s top 24 players under 24 list.
