Since Frank Klopas joined the Impact as head coach, he’s preached that the team has good offensive weapons, but to use them properly, the team’s defensive game needed to improve, something that let the team down the stretch in 2013.
Patrice Bernier was named captain on Feb. 13, 2014.

The team’s captain, Patrice Bernier explained why to Impact Media.
"Being better defensively this year will require all players to know where they should be when we don’t have the ball," said the midfielder. "If we are in the right position when defending, that will minimize mistakes and make us hard to break down."
And Bernier knows that it all starts down the middle.
"Being compact centrally will help us win the ball back quicker, close down lanes down the middle of the field, thusly eliminating scoring chances and allow for quicker counter attacks and good scoring opportunities."
Therefore, a good defence leads to a good offence. The Impact is looking for both in 2014.
