Boniek Garcia is a dynamic two-way midfielder who is a fixture for the Honduran national team and was named Dynamo Players' Player of the Year in 2012.
He ignited Houston's run to the playoffs with four goals and six assists in 17 regular season games last season, after joining the Texan club during the summer transfer window. The Dynamo went 9-4-6 with +10 goal difference in regular season play after he made his debut.
In 2013, he’s struggled with his form as injuries and national team duties have taken their toll on the 28-year-old. He’s played in just 15 games this season, 14 as a starter, and has yet to find the back of the net, managing four assists.
However, two of those assists have come in his last two starts. His return to the lineup on July 6 has inspired his side to make a solid run, going 4-1-1, with the only loss coming in a game he did not start.
His return to form should have been expected as Garcia has a ton of professional experience, including 84 caps with Honduras. He was also on the team roster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
As the Impact returns from a long trip to Guatemala, the home side will look to lessons learned from fellow Central American players in order to halt Garcia and the Dynano, when Houston visits Stade Saputo this Saturday at 7pm (ET).
