Montreal looking to bounce back at home
CF Montréal will take on Charlotte FC, this Saturday at Stade Saputo at 7:30pm. Tickets for the game are still available here.
It’s already a second meeting between these two sides this season, Montreal taking the first game at Bank of America Stadium 2-0. Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic had opened the scoring in that one, with defender Alistair Johnston scoring the second, his first ever in a Montreal uniform.
Montreal is currently fifth in the Eastern Conference standings with 23 points, while Charlotte FC sits just above the playoff line, just three points behind head coach Wilfried Nancy’s men. The North Carolina representatives will in no doubt be eager to close the gap.
“They try to be aggressive and play up the pitch,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We have ideas of how the game should be played that are similar. Their new coach has a very precise style of play, with a few particularities in the build-up of play. They try to come out from the back and gain speed.”
We’ll also be celebrating Saint-Jean Baptiste at Stade Saputo! We invite you all to wear blue in honour of our national holiday. Music from Quebec artists will be played during the pregame and our stadium DJ presented by Michelob will be in animating. Foodtrucks Gaspésie Bistro le Spot, Queues de castor and Resto Mobile, who will be serving poutine exclusively, will also be on site!
Montreal will be eager to bounce back following back to back losses. Wilfried Nancy’s men suffered a loss to Austin FC last Saturday, which was followed by a difficult loss in the semifinals of the Canadian Championship, falling 4-0 to their rivals Toronto FC, last Wednesday at BMO Field, missing out on a chance to defend their title in this year’s final.
Charlotte FC, on their end, is unbeaten in its last two games, including a 1-1 draw on the road against the Columbus Crew.
“I would have liked for us to have had a bit more of a killer instinct in the final third against Toronto,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “Against Austin, we had opportunities, but we couldn’t convert. We know what our standards are and where we need to improve.”
Montreal will head out west next week, to take on the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field on Wednesday, June 29, at 10pm, followed by a game against the LA Galaxy on Monday, July 4, at 10:30pm. The squad will then return to Montreal to host Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, July 9, at 7:30pm. Tickets available here.
