Montréal takes on Philadelphia in MLS home opener
After opening the MLS season in Orlando last weekend, CF Montréal is back in town to play its home opener, this Saturday at 4pm at Olympic Stadium against the Philadelphia Union.

This will be the first time Philadelphia visits Olympic Stadium, although these two teams know each other quite well. Both games between the two sides ended in a draw last year, and both will be looking to secure the first win of the season come Saturday at the Big-O.
“What I see from Philadelphia is that they progress every year,” said CF Montréal head coach Wilfried Nancy. “They’re constantly evolving. They’ve been playing the same style with the same system for a while now, but they add different elements to their game little by little to improve. It’s very well thought and there’s a long-term vision.
Montreal suffered a 2-0 loss in their opening game of the season, just a few days after their dominant 3-0 win over Santos Laguna last Wednesday, a win that allowed Wilfried Nancy’s men to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League.
They’ll now take on Cruz Azul in a two-leg series, with the first leg taking place a few days after our home opener, next Wednesday in Mexico City.
The team will then travel to New York to take on NYCFC on Saturday, March 12, before flying back to Montreal for a decisive second leg against Cruz Azul, on March 16 at 8pm. Tickets available here.
All that to say that it’s been a very busy start to the season for the Montreal side.
“Our first game back is never easy when you’re coming back from Champions League,” explained Nancy. “We still played a good game in Orlando. We took two quick goals in the second, but we were in control of the situation. The idea now is to take it game by game and monitor our squad. Then it’s about putting the freshest players in place to bring back results.”
