Pregame – MTL v CHI

Montreal hosts the Fire at Stade Saputo with 10 games left in the season

CF Montréal will look to make it two wins in a row and six of seven games unbeaten, when it hosts the Chicago Fire at Stade Saputo, this Sunday at 1am (TVA Sports, TSN, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690). Tickets for our first afternoon game of the season at Stade Saputo are on sale here.

After falling to Nashville last Saturday at Stade Saputo, the team’s first loss of the season in its home ground, Wilfried Nancy’s men were able to bounce back with a huge performance on the road, beating Orlando 4-2 and jumping back into a playoff position.

With just 10 games remaining, Montreal finds itself ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference, but things are tight, with just nine points separating second from ninth.

Chicago, on its end, is in a bit of a more difficult situation. The side from Illinois is well outside the playoff picture at the moment in 12th, and is scoreless in its last two games, both losses. Head coach Raphaël Wicky’s men have managed just one win in their last five games.

“I watched their last game against D.C. United. Their 3-0 loss was a little severe, because they had chances to get into the game quickly,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. "We need to be careful, like I often say. They’ve changed their system. They’re coming her for points. We’re going to stay focused to win this game at home.”

Romell Quioto made his first start since July 7 in the match against Orlando, notching a goal and two assists, while Djordje Mihailovic added two assists as well, bringing his tally to 10 on the season and becoming just the fifth Club player to reach that tally.

Lassi Lappalainen also made his return from injury, coming on in the second half and scoring his first goal of the season immediately afterwards.

Montreal will play its first game of the 2021 Canadian Championship on Wednesday, September 22, at 5pm, taking on the HFX Wanderers FC at the Wanderers Grounds in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the quarterfinal round. The team will be back in action in MLS the following Saturday, September 25, to take on the Columbus Crew at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690).
