Everything on the line in final game of the season
The last game of the year is also the biggest: CF Montréal hosts Toronto FC at Stade Saputo this Sunday at 1pm, in the final of the Canadian Championship. The winner will see themselves lift the Voyageurs Cup and also qualify to next year’s Concacaf Champions League.
It’s a game you absolutely don’t want to miss. You can purchase your tickets for the final here.
“We started the season against Toronto, in Fort Lauderdale, with not one person in the stands,” said midfielder Samuel Piette. “Now we have the opportunity to finish the season at home, in front our fans, in a full stadium we hope.”
The intensity promises to be at a boiling point when these two teams hit the pitch on Sunday afternoon. The history between these two sides runs deep, especially in this competition. With so much on the line, both teams will be looking to get on the front foot as soon as the whistle blows.
Montreal heads into this game as the defending champions after having defeated Toronto FC in the 2019 edition of the national tournament at BMO Field.
Wilfried Nancy’s men entered the tournament this time around in the quarterfinal stage, where they took on Halifax on the road and managed a 3-1 win. They then travelled to Hamilton to take on Forge FC at Tim Hortons Field, squeaking past the Canadian side in the shootout after a hard-fought, scoreless game.
It’ll be a first Canadian Championship game on home soil for Montreal since they hosted Cavalry FC in the second leg of the 2019 semifinal.
“We’re happy because this is what we wanted,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We wanted to play at home. We want to finish this season in a positive way for the players, for the Clubs, for the fans, for everybody.”
Luckily, the coaching staff will be able to count on a well-rested and healthy roster for this one, as our four internationals have also returned from duty as well.
Everything is on the line Sunday, and we need your support. Tous au Stade.
