Looking for a fourth consecutive win against the East leaders
CF Montréal will be looking to extend its unbeaten streak when it visits the Eastern Conference leading Philadelphia Union, this Saturday at 3pm at Subaru Park. You can follow live on TVA Sports, TSN, CTV, 91,9 Sports, and TSN 690.
Wilfried Nancy’s men are one of the hottest teams in the league at the moment, unbeaten in five games across all competitions, including a three-game winning streak. They will, however, be put to the test against a Union side that suffered just its first loss of the season, last Saturday against Toronto FC.
It will be the second meeting between these two sides this season, with head coach Jim Curtin’s men taking the first match 2-1 in our home opener at Olympic Stadium.
“I like playing against teams that in good form, because it allows us to see where we are compared to them,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We played an interesting game against them the first time around. They’re a team that presses well up the pitch and they know their style very well. Playing there is never easy. They’ve been playing the same way for a while now. It’s time that has allowed them to put in consistent and regular performances.”
Seven games into the season, Montreal has proven to be one of the most offensive teams in the league. They’re currently ranked third in terms of goals scored with 13, behind only Austin FC and LAFC. It’s Montreal’s highest tally after seven games since joining MLS in 2012.
A big reason for their productivity is the emergence of Djordje Mihailovic’s goalscoring. With four goals in his last four games, Djordje has already matched his goal tally in the entire 2021 season, adding three assists as well in 2022. His performances have thus far made him the early frontrunner for the league’s MVP award.
Romell Quioto continues to be the goalscoring force we’ve familiarized ourselves with, with three goals in his last three games, including back-to-back game winners in our last two wins.
“Philadelphia is a really good team,” said striker Kei Kamara. “They’ve done well in the past couple of years. But since I’ve been in this locker room, I don’t see anyone intimidated to play anyone. We’re focused on what we need to do. It’s a road game and it’s going to be tough, but we’ve been there.”
Good news on the injury front: Samuel Piette, Mathieu Choinière, and Joaquin Torres have all been training with the first team this week after spending time on the sidelines due to injury. Whether or not we’ll see them in the 18 comes Saturday remains unclear.
After taking on Philadelphia, Montreal will be back home for back-to-back games at Stade Saputo, the first coming on Saturday, April 30, at 4pm, against Atlanta United, followed by a matchup against Orlando City SC on Saturday, May 7, at 4pm. Tickets for both games are available here.
