Montreal takes on its biggest rival at BMO Field
CF Montréal travels to the Queen City to take on Toronto FC, this Sunday at 7:30pm at BMO Field (TVA Sports, TSN, BPM Sports, TSN 690).
Head coach Wilfried Nancy’s men will be eager to bounce back against their rival after falling 1-0 to the New York Red Bulls over the weekend, the team’s first nine games. The team’s last loss went all the way back to July 9, against Sporting Kansas City.
“They played with a lot of intensity, but we had control of the game,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “They scored their goal and that was a good play on their end. We could’ve been better. There were opportunities we didn’t exploit well enough. That’s what makes the difference at this level.”
Despite the loss, Montreal still remains in second place in the Eastern Conference standings with five games to go in the regular season, behind the Philadelphia Union in first. The Bleu-blanc-noir has been particularly good on the road as of late, currently riding a four-game winning streak away from home.
The two Canadian teams will be facing off for the third time this year. After suffering a 4-0 loss in the Canadian Championship semifinal, CF Montréal was able to come away with a 1-0 win against Toronto on July 16 in MLS, thanks to a goal from Romell Quioto.
Head coach Bob Bradley’s men are in the thick of the hunt for a playoff spot, due in part to the additions of Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi to the squad. Currently ranked tenth in the Eastern Conference, Toronto is just two points behind Inter Miami in seventh, who hold the final playoff spot at the moment.
They’re going into this game with just one loss suffered in their last seven games.
“We’re in the last part of the season,” said Nancy. “We are going to continue doing what we’ve always done well this season, and that is using the right players when we need to. The players are ready. The team spirit in this group is extremely good.”
CF Montréal will return home for a two-game homestand at Stade Saputo, starting with a matchup against the Columbus Crew on Friday, September 9, at 7:30pm, followed by the Chicago Fire on Tuesday, September 13, also at 7:30pm. Tickets for both those games are available here.
