Report: Impact U21 shuts out North York Astros 5-0

Impact U21 vs North York Astros

Rivière-des-Prairies, Quebec – With five different goal scorers, the Impact U21 beat the North York Astros 5-0 on Sunday afternoon, at the Sports Complex of College St-Jean-Vianney, in Rivières-des-Prairies. Karl W. Ouimette, Charles Joly, Maxim Tissot, Kevin Luarca and Mircea Ilcu all scored for the home team.

Following a difficult first half, the Impact U21s took just two minutes to open the scoring in the second half. Midfielder Wandrille Lefevre fired a low shot off of a free kick from about 25 yards out, near the left corner of the box. Astros goalkeeper Antal-Andras Toth made the initial save, diving to his right, but the rebound found first team defender Karl W. Ouimette near the short post. Ouimette, who signed his pro contract in July, buried the rebound into an open net.

The home team then doubled its lead in the 62nd minute when Lefevre fed a through ball down the left flank to U18 forward Charles Joly, who dribbled into the box. After a strange bounce, he controlled the ball with his head and fired a point blank shot that beat the keeper.

Five minutes later, Maxim Tissot, who was playing in midfield for the Impact U21s in this contest, fired home a low shot from just inside the box that beat the Astros goalkeeper short side.

Forward Kevin Luarca scored his first goal of the season in the 78th minute. He first crossed the ball into the box from the left flank. Defender Amine Meftouh got a head on it and Luarca managed to blast the loose ball into the back of the net.

Three minutes later, forward Mircea Ilcu, playing in his first game this season following a lengthy knee injury, smashed in a loose ball on the goal line after forward Charles Joly’s shot from the six yard box was stopped by the keeper.

“Today was a good game for us in terms of building the play and the quality we showed in bringing things forward and creating scoring chances,” said Impact U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “It took us 45 minutes before we were really able to put things in place, but after we scored the first goal, things got a little bit easier for us. I want to congratulate our players who were consistent all game and continued to push forward despite playing under the heat. Three goals by the first team yesterday, five by the U21s today; all in all a good weekend for the Montreal Impact.”

The U21s record now stands at 7-3-5, and the team jumps to 6th place in the Canadian Soccer League standings.
