The player on top of a lot of Bleu-blanc-noir supporters’ wish lists has joined the club. Midfielder Samuel Piette is now a Montreal Impact player, following his transfer from Spanish third division club CD Izarra. The 22-year-old from Le Gardeur has played 32 of his Navarrese club’s 38 games in the 2016-17 season, starting 31 of those, for a total of 2,840 minutes on the pitch.
With Canada, Piette already has 35 caps under his belt. At the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer, he is one of only three players to have played maximum minutes, along with defender Michael Petrasso and midfield partner Scott Arfield, within the team that kept the tournament’s best passing accuracy (88%). Piette completed 154 passes for a 93% success rate, with five recoveries and 10 fouls in four games.
Piette will be the eighth player from Quebec in the Impact squad, besides fellow Quebecers Louis Béland-Goyette, Patrice Bernier, David Choinière, Maxime Crépeau, Anthony Jackson-Hamel, Wandrille Lefèvre and Ballou Tabla.
