MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced Friday that Quebec midfielder and co-captain Samuel Piette has signed a new three-season contract for 2023, 2024 and 2025, with an option year in 2026.

He will continue to play a key role both at the Club and with the national team, as well as pursue his ongoing work off the field.”

Piette, 27, has played the past six seasons in Montreal, totalling 11,323 minutes in 143 MLS games, including 127 starts, as well as two goals and 10 assists in the regular season. During Montreal’s historic 2022 campaign, Piette played 26 games and 1,486 minutes, posting a 90% passing percentage, an MLS career-best for the player.
On August 13 against the Houston Dynamo FC, Piette reached the milestone of 150 games played with the Club across all competitions. In addition, the midfielder's 143 games in MLS puts him eight games away from tying the record for most games played with the Club, currently held by Patrice Bernier (151). He is also three games away from tying the record for most starts with Montreal in MLS, held by Nacho Piatti (130), and 104 minutes away from Piatti and the playing time record in regular season (11,427 minutes).
Outside of MLS, the Quebec native helped the Club win its fourth and fifth Canadian Championship titles in 2019 and 2021. He also featured in all four of the Club's matches during the 2020 Concacaf Champions League run against Deportivo Saprissa and CD Olimpia.
Before joining the Club, Piette played a total of 46 games in Spain’s third division between 2015 and 2017, including 32 with CD Izarra in 2016-17. He joined Deportivo La Coruña in 2014 and spent a year on loan with Racing de Ferrol in the 2015-16 season. He previously played in Germany, in 2013 and 2014, with Fortuna Düsseldorf, appearing in two 2 Bundesliga games, as well as in 31 games with the youth team.
Originally from Repentigny, Piette played his youth soccer in Quebec with FC Boisbriand and club de soccer de Repentigny, before joining FC Metz, in France, from 2009 to 2012.
On the international stage, Piette has earned 64 caps with the Canadian men’s national team since making his debut in 2012 at the age of 17. Most notably, he appeared in four of Canada’s 14 games in the final round of 2022 World Cup qualifying matches in Concacaf, helping Canada qualify for the tournament for the first time in 36 years. Piette has also played in the last five Gold Cups for Canada, in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021. He also played for Les Rouges at the U17, U20 and U23 youth levels and competed at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico in 2011.
Transaction: Midfielder Samuel Piette has signed a new three-year contract extension with CF Montréal for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons. The agreement comes with an option for 2026.
