MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Monday that Sanna Nyassi has been selected for national team duty by his native Gambia for a World Cup qualifying match on March 23, against Ivory Coast. As a result, he will miss the Impact’s next game, on Saturday, versus the New York Red Bulls.
If called upon, Nyassi will make his fifth appearance for his country.
The speedy midfielder is in his fifth season in MLS, second with the Impact, and has appeared in all three games in 2013, including a start against the Portland Timbers on March 9.
Last season, he finished second on the team in scoring with six goals in 28 appearances, 17 as a starter, adding three assists.
