MONTREAL – Defenders Juliano Cobuzzi and André-Cédric Zibi, as well as midfielder David Choinière, who all play with the Montreal Impact U16 team, have been selected by the U15 Canadian National Team participating in the Copa Mexico de Naciones, an international tournament played in Mexico City, from June 18 to 24.
“It’s always a sense of pride for the Academy when players are chosen to play on their national teams,” said Impact Academy director Philippe Eullaffroy. “This honour rewards the hard work of the player’s former club, while acting as an additional tool for development. This will be a great experience for them.”
“These three players have shown a lot of progress over the last six months,” said Impact U16 head coach Jason Di Tullio. “They have earned this call-up because they come to work every day with a positive attitude. They work hard and are passionate about what they are doing. This experience will be a good one as they will get to see a different style of soccer, in a more hostile environment.”
In the group phase, Canada will face off against Mexico on June 18, Nigeria on June 19 and then Chile on June 20. Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain and the U.S are also taking part in the tournament.
The semi-finals will be held on June 22, and the final is set for two days later.
