It’s been said before, but with the Red Bulls in town for the first of two meetings between IMFC and New York in CONCACAF Champions League, this Wednesday’s matchup at 8pm at Stade Saputo, is the biggest home game of the year.
Here are the top 5 reasons you should be in the stands cheering:
1. A win and we’re almost in
Without counting our chickens before they hatch, the bleu-blanc-noir could put itself in very good position with a win Wednesday to move out of its group. With that result, the Impact would head to New York in October with the upper hand, while the Red Bulls would still have to travel to San Salvador to play its second game versus C.D. FAS. A Red Bulls draw would then qualify the Impact. Would you like to relive February 25, 2009?
Group 3 Standings
1. Impact de Montréal - 2-0-0 6 pts
2. New York Red Bulls - 1-0-0 3 pts
3. C.D. FAS - 0-3-0 0 pts
2. The team needs you!
With its biggest game of the season at Stade Saputo, IMFC needs its 12th man in order to give them the support they need to push towards a first qualification into the CCL quarterfinals since 2008-2009, when there was over 55,000 fans in attendance at Olympic Stadium to play the home leg match versus Mexican club Santos Laguna. Be loud, sing proud and support your team!
Excellent tickets for this game are still available on ticketmaster.ca or at the Stade Saputo ticketing office prior to the game.
3. Di Vaio / Piatti magic
Since the Argentine arrived in Montreal, the dynamic DP duo of Di Vaio and Piatti has been driving opposing defenders bonkers. In six games played across all competitions, both Ignacio Piatti and Marco Di Vaio have scored four goals and added two assists, which includes the away game at C.D. FAS in CCL play. While Piatti managed an assist in that game, which was just his second game with the bleu-blanc noir, Di Vaio has torn it up in this competition, having scored three goals and one assist in his team’s first two games versus FAS.
4. Thierry Henry
We very rarely talk about a player from the opposing team but in the case of Thierry Henry, exceptions are made. Henry has been hinting at retirement all season long, and Wednesday’s matchup is the last time the Red Bulls will visit la belle province this season. For one last time, you could get a glimpse of the World Cup, EURO and UEFA Champions League legend. But the Impact defence is ready!
The Impact is offering a special promotion on tickets for Wednesday’s matchup. In honour of the four goals scored by both Di Vaio and Piatti (not really), fans can procure four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks starting at as a little as $123.
