Top storylines for Saturday's game against D.C. United

Justin Mapp vs D.C. United

Coming off of its 4-2 midweek victory over FC Edmonton in the Amway Canadian Championship, the Impact heads to the US capital with some wind behind its sails.

Here are some interesting storylines leading up to Saturday’s match in Washington against D.C. United:

1. A win is a win

Nothing gets momentum flowing better than a good performance, a check in the win column and an appearance in the final of the Amway Canadian Championship after the Impact topped the Eddies midweek.

2. Facelift

D.C. United underwent a facelift from last season’s team that earned just 19 points in 2013. In came a number of veterans through trade and the waiver draft, including defenders Sean Franklin and Bobby Boswell, forwards Fabian Espindola and Eddie Johnson, along with a familiar face to Impact fans… (see #3).

3. Oh captain, my former captain

Visiting the U.S. capital will bring with it a chance to drop in on an old friend, former Impact captain Davy Arnaud. Arnaud has made eight starts for the black and red in nine appearances, scoring two goals, and has helped D.C. to third place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points already this season.

4. Injuries

Looks like Marco Di Vaio is questionable for Saturday’s game, still nursing a hamstring strain, but defender Matteo Ferrari seems closer to a return, having trained Thursday with the squad. Eric Miller is still training on the sidelines, while Adrian Lopez and Nelson Rivas are still waiting for their return to the lineup.
