Traditionally, the twelve days of Christmas begin at, well, Christmas, or the next day. But Impact Media, like a kid presented with an Advent calendar, has no patience.
We thus give you our countdown of the Impact’s top twelve on-field moments in this unforgettable 2016 season.
And a partridge in a pear tree, of course.
1. August 27, 2016: Toronto 0-1 Montreal – Impact breaks duck at BMO Field
The Impact has never won in BMO Field in all competitions. And when Calum Mallace gets a harsh red card just before halftime against Toronto FC, it seems that the team’s chances of bucking that trend have dropped.
Oh, but au contraire. With Mallace’s sending off, Montreal catches a second wind and displays magnificent courage and efficiency. As he would do so many times on the road this season, Nacho Piatti scores a crucial goal, the only one of the game, for a 1-0 defeat of Toronto that proves that BMO Field can, indeed, be the scene for memorable Bleu-blanc-noir moments.
And while those moments didn’t quite happen during the remainder of the 2016 season, the New Year surely has some more in store!
