The Montreal Impact U16 and U18 teams also played last weekend, and after losses to the New York Red Bulls on March 22, the Impact bounced back with a pair of victories.
The U18 team dominated Albertson SC, winning by a score of 6-0. Forward Badreddine Boulajoul scored a hat trick, while defender Aron Mkungilwa scored two and midfielder Louis-Philippe Paquin scored the other goal for the Bleu-blanc-noir. In the 65th minute, defender Abdoulay Samake was shown the red card.
The U16 team also won, 3-1 against Albertson SC. Midfielder Esleyder Luarca scored the first goal in the 37th minute, quickly followed by midfielder Luca Ricci, who scored two minutes later. Protais Mutambala netted the last one in the second half. Albertson SC fought back and scored one, but too little to late.
“It’s positive. I was looking forward to this game to see my players’ reaction against an opponent with less quality, and I was happy with what I saw,” said Impact U16 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “During the last 20 minutes, we had problems dealing with pressure, but globally, I’m satisfied. One key element was to force them to defend and anticipate their counterattacks. Last week, despite the loss against New York, we had a good second half and it was important to continue on that pace.”
Both teams will play each other again on April 18, but this time Albertson will be coming to Montreal, on the synthetic turf of Stade Saputo.
