As we are in the middle of the MLS and USL seasons, the U16 and U18 Montreal Impact teams are preparing for their next USSDA seasons, which will start in September.
The U18s in New Brunswick
The Impact U18 was in Moncton, New Brunswick for a five-day training camp. Well received by the hosts, the Bleu-blanc-noir played two friendly games; one against a selection from New Brunswick, the club’s partner, and a second against the University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals.
Seeing many of last year’s players sign with FC Montreal, the U18 team has many new younger players joining the group. One of the objectives for this camp was to solidify the bonds and develop automatisms between the players. In both games, the starters played only one half, being replaced by their teammates for the second half.
The Impact won its first game 4-1 against New Brunswick. In the victory, Giovanni Pulitano, Gabriel Balbinotti, Protais Mutambala and Vincent Lamy scored.
In the other game, against University of Maine at Fort Kent, they tied 1-1 as Santiago Gonzalez was the only scorer for the Bleu-blanc-noir’s juniors.
Impact U16 v Vanier College
For the Impact U16, the team was hosting Vanier College at Centre Nutrilait on Saturday. The game finished in a 2-2 draw. Calin Calaidjoglu and Woobens Pacius scored for head coach Nicolas Gagnon’s team.
The team will pursue its preparation this week and face CS Longueuil U18 on Saturday.
The 2016/17 return
Last Saturday, parents and players from the Academy were also invited at Centre Nutrilait for the 2016/17 sport-études program return.
The annual event helped display what is new at the Academy, while giving some reminders on the way things work during the year. Academic excellence and perseverance were also rewarded with the player holding the best average at every level was given a trophy.
